Happy Haloween!

Hello Everyone!

We had a pretty good week! The ward Trunk or Treat was on Tuesday. It was an awesome chance to talk with the ward members. We also got an opportunity to do service on Tuesday! We helped pull weeds in a garden. Very fun.

We had a cool teaching moment. We had been praying about what to teach Lavonda next and ween't able to access the record of what she had already been taught. The only thing that came to mind was tithing. I was hesitant because it was a random topic and one we thought would bring up concerns. But, we decided to teach it. When we told her we wanted to talk about tithing, she was in tears. She felt like something was missing, and had felt that she needed to pay tithing earlier that week. She was so happy! We didn't know she needed to hear those words, but God did.

The weather is so beautiful here! Also, people are really big on Halloween. We get to help hand out candy tonight :)

Happy Hallowen, and have a great week!

10/24/16

Hello Everyone!

We had a great week! Loraine is doing wonderfully and is anxious for her baptism to happen soon. She has been a good example to me of "go and do" (1 Nephi 3:7). Lavonda is doing well and we were able to meet more frequently this week. Alberto, who was baptized in September, was able to receive the priesthood yesterday. We have been able to winess many miracles.

We were able to teach the Word of Wisdom (God's health law) to a couple of people we are working with. In both cases, I was amazed at how readily they accepted that they can be blessed for living this law, and can know it is good for themslves as the pray about it and live it. I hope that I can be the same way and not drag my feet when good things are asked of me.

I hope you're all doing well!

Read it!

Hello Everyone!

This week we were challenged to focus on teaching everyone from the Book of Mormon. It was amazing to see all different people learn and be blessed from that book.

We were on an exchange when we knocked on one man's door- he opened for just a second and said "I'm atheist" and started to close the door. I wasn't sure what he said, so I asked for him to repeat himself. He did. We asked if he had ever considered the concept of God, which led to an awesome conversation. We testified of the Book of Mormon and the power it has to help people know for themselves if God is there. We promised that if he would read it and ask God if He is there and if the Book of Mormon is true, he would learn for himself. He accepted and said he would read it by December.

We had several experiences where we were able to help members who have not attended in a long time feel the Spirit through Book of Mormon verses we shared.

One sister we are teaching has really dived into the Book of Mormon. She is learning and coming closer to God every day. We asked how her reading has been going and she told us that she reads all day- she can't put it down! That morning, we mentioned something about inviting her to be baptized on 11/12 (half seriously), but it felt right. We prayed about it right then, and we both felt so much peace and power, and knew that it was what our Heavenly Father wanted. She prayed about it at the end of our meeting with her, and she gained that confirmation as well.

The Book of Mormon is true. I have seen it change so many lives and soften so many hearts. It helps us to know Jesus Christ. If you haven't read from it lately, or if you've never read from it at all, I encourage you to pick it up today. They're free on mormon.org. I promise God will help you to know if it can bless your life as well. (And then tell me what your experience was- I'd love to hear it!)

Thank you all for your prayers, support, and encouragement!

Love,

10/10/16

Hello Everyone!

This week was a little drizzly, but we were pretty unaffected by the storm otherwise. We have been keeping the people on the east coast of Florida in our prayers.

It seemed like everyone had some surprise health problem this week, so we didn't get to meet with most of the people we usually teach. We were able to meet and teach some new people though, so that was great! We were also able to meet with a handful of families who are wanting to return to activity in the church. It was special to see how the gospel of Jesus Christ can help people in every different phase of life.

For protection from the Zika virus, sister missionaries in the Florida Tampa Mission are now approved to wear dress pants. That will be really nice for biking :)

The ward is great! We got to teach Young Womens yesterday, and focused on how much the Lord really loves each individual. Here's a scripture we shared: "Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God; For, behold, the Lord your Redeemer suffered death in the flesh; wherefore he suffered the pain of all men, that all men might repent and come unto him" (Doctrine and Covenants 18:10-11). What an amazing doctrine.

Have a great week!
